Kermit Simmons
Kermit went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 15, 2004, at 1 p.m. He had served his Lord 66 years and was very active until poor health in 1994. Kermit worked on a seismograph crew for 10 years prior to moving to Lubbock in 1958.
He started his first business named Contract Organ Service, which he later renamed Lubbock Sound Equipment Co. He was the owner/operator until his retirement in 1982, when his sons became the primary operators, honoring his wish that it continue to be a family business, which it still is today. He was an active member of Colonial Baptist Church for many years, and was a member of IABC at his death. Kermit (our father) lived his life unselfishly in the service of his family and friends. What a patient, kind and generous man who will be most surely missed by his wife, family and friends. Throughout his lengthy illness, he always said when asked how he was feeling that he was "feeling great."
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. He is survived by his wife, Dava Jo Simmons; daughter, Kaye Doyle and husband David of Rio Rancho, N.M.; sons, Kerry Simmons and wife Lynn, and Kelly Simmons and wife Jana; brother, Ben Simmons of Idalou; sister, Joy Bell Tomlinson on Winnfield, La.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. We love you, Daddy.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church - North Campus, 8315 Indiana, under direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 17, from 7 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
