LaNeel H. Pierce
October 22, 1928 - January 17, 2018

LaNeel H. Pierce, 89, a resident of Las Vegas for the past 30 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Hope's Colfax Senior Care in Raton, NM. LaNeel was born in Sweetwater, Texas on Oct. 22, 1928, the eldest of the 3 daughters of Jack and Lucy Neel Hadderton.

She grew up during the depression, and they lived wherever her dad was able to find work, which was in a variety of Texas towns. She was 15 years old and working in a drugstore in Sweetwater, TX when she met her future husband, Ed Pierce. They married on Sept. 3, 1944 in Sweetwater, TX. They were married 62 years, until Ed's passing in 2006. They raised his 3 children but she always felt they were her own.

LaNeel had a variety of jobs throughout her life, besides the most important one as wife and mother. Her first job was the drugstore, then a drapery shop, dental assistant, book keeper for Ed's carpet business and others. She and Ed owned a farm in Missouri for awhile and raised cattle. She was raised by country people with country values, and even though she and Ed lived mostly in town she always loved the country way of life and considered herself a “country girl”. She had great respect for ranchers, farmers, and the agriculture community in general.

After Ed got out of the Air Force he went to work at a home furnishing store and eventually ended up being a carpet salesman as a career. They lived in Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, then back to Colorado before settling back in Las Vegas for retirement in 1987.

LaNeel was a strong Christian woman, faithful Southern Baptist, and was always active in her church, regardless of where they were living. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and caring for her family. She was an active member in PEO Sisterhood Chapter H, and a Gold Star Mother, as her son Leon was killed in Viet Nam. Family was most important to her, but so were the many friends she made along life's path. She will be missed by all.

LaNeel was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Lucy Hadderton, husband Ed Pierce, all 3 children; Michael Pierce, Leon Pierce and Mari Bloom, son-in-law Ed Bloom, and granddaughter Janet Bloom.

She is survived by her sisters LaVerna Rogers and Jackie Pickett, brother-in-law Clyde Pickett, daughters in-law Jackie Pierce and Mary Gentry, granddaughters Cyndy Reynolds, Lauri Sisney and husband Elzie, Melissa Volz and husband Kevin, great grandchildren Cameron Parcell and wife Emily, Sarah Quigley and husband Tim, Pierce Gormley, Ava Gormley, Benjamin Wells, Bradley Wells, and James Wells, great great grandchildren Kathleen Quigley, Connor Tierney, Rory Quigley, Riley Parcell and Cooper Parcell, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for LaNeel Pierce will be held Saturday January 27, 2018 at 10 am at the Calvary Baptist Church, 300 Baca Ave, Las Vegas, NM, with Brother Owen Young officiating.
