Dawson Sr., Lamottis Walter
Lamottis Walter Dawson Sr. died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Harvest Manor Nursing Home in Denham Springs. He was born March 26, 1925, in Crosby, Miss., to Luther C. Dawson and Allie Bateman Dawson. He worked for Amite County supervisors and East Baton Rouge Parish supervisors.
Survived by his four daughters, Annette Rome and husband Wade, of Central, Mamie James, of Jackson, Diane Adams and husband Greg, of Denham Springs, and Bessie Kirkland and husband Perry, of Clinton; son, Lamottis Dawson Jr. and wife Belinda, of Denham Springs; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Nelson Dawson, Liberty, Miss., and Lloyd Dawson, Walls, Miss.; sister, Florence Byrd, Petal, Miss.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Allie Bateman Dawson; five sisters, Lula Dawson, Elsie Dawson, Tressie McKey, Maxine VonDrasek and Annie Bell Crum; and four brothers, Willis Dawson, Thomas Dawson, Carlos Dawson and Roddis Dawson.
Mr. Dawson was a member of New Hope Methodist-Protestant Church in Gloster, Miss., and an Army veteran of World War II.
Visiting at Brown Funeral Home chapel, Gloster, Thursday, May 12, from 10 a.m. until funeral service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. LaDon Dawson and the Rev. Carlos Dawson. Interment in New Hope Cemetery near Gloster.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Dawson's grandsons.
