Larry Edward Walton, U.S. Navy, Ret.
KILGORE -- Larry Edward Walton, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, succumbed to cancer and joined our Lord on August 10, 2007, at his home in Rancho Cucamonga, California.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2007, at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home, with the Reverend James Boatman and the Reverend Bruce Wells officiating. Interment will follow in Kilgore City Cemetery.
Mr. Walton was born April 23, 1944, in Alice. The family moved to Kilgore, where he attended school. In 1961, he joined the United State Navy, earning the Combat Action Ribbon and three Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals for service in Vietnam.
After retiring from the United States Navy in 1978 as a chief machinist mate, he went to work for Brown and Root at the South Texas Nuclear Plant in Bay City. In 1962, Bechtel Corporation employed him for the next 25 years.
Larry loved to make people laugh with his quick wit and a good joke. But most of all, he will be remember[ed] for the love that he had for his family.
Waiting in heaven are his father, Jack Newton Walton; and his brother, Michael Ray Taliaferro.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Carol Walton: Two sons, Larry Thomas Walton, and Michael Randall Walton and wife, Belinda of El Campo; and four stepchildren, Larry Gene Cook and wife, Janie of Port Lavaca, David Lloyd Cook of Iowa, Texas, Diana Gay Cook-Kelley of Houston, and Joseph Allen Garrett and wife, Jennifer of Waco. His devoted mother and stepfather, Lorraine and Thomas Taliaferro of Kilgore; stepmother, Mildred Walton of Montgomery; mother-in-law, Juanita Fields of Lytle; his siblings, Dean Taliaferro and his wife, Mary Lou of Liberty City, Nancy Joyner and her husband, Tommy of Willis, Jackie Sue Cale and husband, Ronald of Porter, Jeanette White and husband, Hubert of Montgomery, Billy Jack Walton and wife, Judy of Splendora, and Rodger Walton and wife, Karen of White Hall; sisters-in-law, Darlene Potter and husband, SOnny of Lytle, and Glenna Garcia and husband Manuel of Devine; brothers-in-law, Otis Pierce and wife, Andi, and William Pierce and wife, Tami of Devine; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, coworkers and their families.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. this evening, August 17, 2007, at Rader Funeral Home.
