July 10, 1950 - April 1, 2014

Mr. Larry Mitchell Barnes, 63, of Jasper, GA, departed this life Monday, April 1, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his family after several years of declining health. Larry was born July 10, 1950 in New Orleans, Louisiana a son to the late Charles and Lottice Barnes. Larry was also preceded in death by a brother Tommy Barnes and sister Sylvia Whitlock. Larry joined the Merchant Marines at a young age. He eventually settled in Gordon County and became a cabinet and furniture builder. He was a Gideon and member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Cathy Tatum Barnes of the residence; daughters; Sarah and Emma Barnes also of the residence and a son, Benjamin Barnes. He is also survived by a sister and brother in law Linda and Harry Fourroux of Texas, several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Larry Barnes will be held Friday April 4, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Ponders Fairmount Chapel with Reverend Johnny Parker officiating. He will be laid to rest at Haven of Rest Cemetery with family and friends serving as pall bearers. The family will receive friends at the Ponders Fairmount Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. Family and friends who wish may send flowers or make a donation in his memory to the Gideon International to benefit the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
