Lars G. Johnson
Funeral services for Mr. Lars G. Johnson was held at noon Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005, at Broadmoor Baptist Church, 9755 Goodwood Blvd. Burial followed at Greenoaks Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation was held at the church, on August 9, from 11 a.m. until religious service at noon.
Mr. Johnson, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away at his home on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005. He was 86 years of age. Mr. Johnson was born in Bogalusa and grew up in Minden. He was a decorated veteran of World War II with five years service in the American and Pacific theaters of operation, where he was awarded a Battlefield Commission.
After military service, he attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and graduated from LSU School of Music. While pursuing a career in the insurance business that spanned more than 50 years, Mr. Johnson remained active in the Baton Rouge musical community.
Over the years, he served in the music ministries of First Baptist, First Presbyterian, Trinity Episcopal, Emmanuel Baptist, Parkview Baptist, and Stevendale Baptist churches, and at B'nai Israel Synagogue. He was instrumental in beginning music programs at several area churches, including Broadmoor Baptist, his current church home. He was an active member and officer of the Baton Rouge Music Club Auxiliary for more than 50 years.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Johnson Sr. and Stella Boyd Johnson; a sister, Flora Johnson Robinson; and brother, John Henry Johnson Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Julia Judd Johnson; daughter, Jennifer Johnson; sisters-in-law, Mildred Davenport Johnson of Shreveport, and Ruth Delcomyn Judd of Ruston; nephews, Jeff Robinson and his wife, Judy, of Midlothian, Va., and Byron Judd and his wife Kathy, of Ruston, and Doctors Kim and Debra Judd of Shreveport; nieces, Marilyn Johnson King of Shreveport, Jane Robinson Watson and her husband, Dan, of Powhatan, Va., and Marsha Johnson Enterline of Dayton, Ohio; great-nephews, Craig Robinson and his wife, Heather, of Powhatan, Richard King of Fort Worth, Eric Judd of New Orleans, and Charles Judd of Shreveport; and great-nieces, Alicia King of Bedford, Texas, Sarah Enterline of Boston, Lara Watson of Chatanooga, Tenn., Elise Judd of Shreveport, Claire Enterline of Boston, Rebecca Watson of Powhatan, and Ansley and Rachel Judd of Ruston.
Pallbearers were Jeff Robinson, Dan Watson, Kim Judd, Byron Judd, David Ellis and Luke Porterfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to the Baptist Children's Home in Monroe, to Broadmoor Baptist Church, or to the organization of the donor's choice.
