Laura Elizabeth (Simmons) Clonts
Mrs. Laura Elizabeth Simmons Clonts, age 88, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015, at the family home in Oak Ridge, North Carolina.
Funeral services for Mrs. Clonts will be conducted on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at 2:00 P.M. at Forbis and Dick Brooke Chapel, Stokesdale, NC with the Reverend Dr. Gordon Dickson officiating. Interment will follow at the Oak Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive guests at Forbis & Dick Brooke Chapel, Stokesdale on Monday, April 27, 2015 from 7:00 P.M - 9:00 P.M.
Mrs. Clonts was born January 14, 1927, in the Garden Valley community of Macon County, Georgia to the late Mary Susan Whatley Simmons and Oscar Hudson Simmons. Mrs. Clonts was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Home Economics. She taught Home Economics at John McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia. She met and married her husband Sam in 1950. They were married for sixty-five years. A lifelong learner, Mrs. Clonts was a skilled nutritionist with an avid interest in natural medicine and organic gardening. She was also known for her skill as a talented seamstress having handcrafted many beautiful dresses for her daughters and granddaughters. A faithful and loving wife, she will be remembered by her husband and children as a gracious woman of integrity and compassion who loved God and endeavored to always share that love with everyone she met.
She is survived by her husband, Sam B. Clonts of Oak Ridge, NC; four daughters, Susan Parks, of Greensboro, NC; Mary Clayton, of Durham, NC; Harriet (Gordon) Dickson, of Findlay, Ohio; Sarah (Keith) Wilson, of Summerfield, NC; one son, Sam (Tara) Clonts, Jr. of Alexandria, VA; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one sister; Leila (Hugh) Crawford of Cullman, AL.
Forbis and Dick Brooke Chapel is serving the Clonts family.
