Mrs. Asher Rites Pend
EASTLAND (RNS) -- Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Ophelia Asher, 92, who died at the home of her son at 713 W. Patterson St. here Tuesday night, are pending at Arrington-Hamner Funeral Home here.
Burial will be in the Murrah [sic Murray] Cemetery at Carbon.
She was born Feb. 19, 1874, in Lingleville, and moved to the Jewell community, west of Gorman, when she was one-year-old.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack A. Jones. Her father was the first postmaster at Jewell, when the post office was in a log cabin.
Mrs. Asher moved to Eastland from the Jewell community in 1956, living since that time with her son, Glenn A.
She married Newt McDaniel in 1890 and he died in 1893 [sic 1892]. In March 1897, she married William Jasper Asher in Round Rock. He died May 21, 1947.
She was a member of Eastland Bethel Baptist Church.
A son, Carl McDaniel, died in 1947.
Suriviors [sic Survivors] are her son, Glenn; three daughters, Mrs. Essie Loughry of Eastland; Mrs. Gladys Chambless of Gorman, and Mrs. Merle Smith of Burkburnett; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
