WOODS, LAURENCE PEEBLES
A retired postal clerk with the U.S. Postal Service and longtime resident of Baton Rouge until retirement when he moved to Weyanoke, he died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson. He was 94 and a native of Laurel Hill. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He received the Purple Heart and was in the Normandy Invasion.
Visiting at Grace Episcopal Church, St. Francisville, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. John Senette. Interment in church cemetery.
Survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Jane Woods, Liberty, Miss.; four grandchildren, April Lauren Woods, Brenner Laurence Woods, Chelsea Elizabeth Woods and James Conner Woods; and a sister, Emma L. Johnson, New Bern, N.C.
Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Oswald and Garnett Peebles Woods; and two brothers, Oswald P. Woods and Wyatt Woods. Pallbearers will be John Barry, Will Plettinger, Prentis Suggs, Daron Suggs, Tim Kane, Bob Woods, Kenneth Kearney and Sherwood Bennett. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Paige, Morris Bennett, W.C. Percy and Bill Plettinger.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 28, St. Francisville, LA 70775. Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., in charge of arrangements.
