Mrs. Kirkland, 79, Dies in Hospital

Mrs. Lavenia Amelia Kirkland, 79, died Monday at 5:30 p.m. in an Alexandria hospital. She was the widow of William Kirkland and was a resident of Kelly.

Mrs. Kirkland is survived by a son, A. W. Kirkland of Pineville; a daughter, Mrs. H. C. Lay of Lake Charles, two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

Her body will be taken to Riser Funeral Home in Columbia where arrangements for funeral services to be held Wednesday are incomplete. Burial will be in the Columbia cemetery.

Final Rites For Mrs. Kirkland Held Recently

Funeral for Mrs. Lavenia A. Kirkland of Kelly, who died at Alexandria Monday of last week, were held on last Wednesday at the Riser and Son Funeral Home of Columbia with the Rev. Jimmy Bolton, pastor of First Baptist Church of Columbia in charge.

Burial was made in the Columbia Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Kirkland was 79 years old, and a sister of the late Steve Manley of Volman Lake, near Riverton.

Survivors inculde [sic include] a son, A. W. Kirkland of Pineville; a daughter, Mrs. H. C. Lay of Lake Charles; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mrs. Jewel Ledbetter of Columbia is a niece; among nephews here are John Manly, Lester Manly and Wilbur Manly.
