L. E. Gates

Lawrence E. Gates, 73, of 114 DeVille died at 5:10 p.m. Saturday in Fairfield Hospital after a long illness.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Queensborough Baptist Church with Dr. David L. Jenkins, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park West Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home Marshall Street Chapel.

Mr. Gates was a native of Winnfield and had lived in Shreveport 33 years. He was a retired employe of Arkla Gas Co. Mr. Gates was a member and deacon of Queensborough Baptist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Sylvia W. Gates; one son, Dr. John L. Gates of Conway, Ark.; one daughter, Mrs. B. G. Barham of Chesterfield, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. Cleo Taylor of Gould, Ark., and Mrs. Lucille Thompson of Jena; one brother, James W. Gates of Jena; and five grandchildren.
