L. D. Emmons

Funeral services for Mr. L. D. Emmons, 81, of Crockett, Texas were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 1996 at Countryside Baptist Church. The Rev. Eddie Atkinson officiated. Interment was in Whitehead Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home of Grapeland, Texas. Mr. Emmons died Thursday morning, Jan. 11 at his residence.

Born on April 22, 1914 in Anderson County, he was the son of Dave and Nancy Caroline Pikes Emmons. Mr. Emmons was a retired school teacher, having taught for forty-two years, and had taught school at Dixie, Central Heights, Burkeville, Pineland, Joaquin, Zavalla, Gallatin, Grapeland, Latexo, Groveland, and Slocum. He was a member of Countryside Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jeff Emmons; a granddaughter, Katrina Wright; and an infant daughter of his son, William.

Mr. Emmons is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Joe Emmons of Crockett; four daughters, Oweta Wright of Orange, Carolyn Harris of Fairfield, Gwen Reed of Scurry, and Celia Whitehead of Grapeland; three sons, Robin Emmons of Tenaha, Davy Emmons of Trinity, and William Emmons of Grapeland; one sister, Leoda Elder of Queen City; one brother, Virgil Emmons of the Deadwood Community, formerly of Beckville; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons of Mr. Emmons.
