MRS. LELIA McCARTY

A well-known Laurel registered nurse, Mrs. Lelia McDaniel McCarty, 63, died unexpectedly Sunday at her residence, 918 South 14th Ave. of an apparent heart attack. She was born Aug. 9, 1908 in Bay Springs. A graduate of the South Mississippi School of Nursing, Mrs. McCarty was a private duty nurse for over 43 years. She also did graduate work in pediatrics and obstetrics at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She was a Red Cross enrolled nurse and gave 25 years of volunteer service. Mrs. McCarty was an active member of the Pinemont Literary Club and was interested in the affairs of the First Baptist Church and also the Wildwood Baptist Church, of which she was a member for the past eight years. She was a member of the DMA (Don't Mention Age) Club of the YWCA.

Mrs. McCarty is survived by one daughter, Mrs. William Lee (Imogene) Henderson of Wilmington, N.C.; one grandson, William Lee Henderson III; three sisters: Mrs. Matt Byrd, Mrs. J. A. Wall and Mrs. Lester Barnett, all of Laurel; and several half-brothers and half-sisters.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Wildwood Baptist Church with burial in Crestview Cemetery. The Revs. Billy G. Johnson and John M. Foy will officiate. The body will be taken to the church at 9:30 a.m.

Honorary pallbearers will be registered nurses of Laurel in uniform.

Pallbearers will be Lester Barnett, Amos McCarty, Leo McCarty, A. R. Nelson, Alex Wall and Hollis Reid.
