Lema Hayes
Lema P. Hayes, age 86, of Cottondale, died Friday, April 16, 2010, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 2010, at Trinity United Methodist Church with Dan Kilgore directing. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 1:3O p.m. until the time of services at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, A.K. Hayes; brothers, Joe, Wilburn, Leslie, Edwin and Morris Powell; and sisters, Madge Ashcroft and Lula Powell.
She is survived by daughters, Rebecca Hayes Tingle; sons, Robert ``Bob'' Hayes (Patsy) and Jeff Hayes (Anita); sisters, Bobbie Weed and Vera Wells; grandchildren, Jeff Hayes, Chris Hayes, Jamey Crocker (Keith), Jennifer Chase (Preston), Leslie Drucker (Charles), Amy Jackson (Byron), Alex Hayes, Abby Hayes and Ben Hayes; and great-grandchildren, Aidan Crocker, Hayden Drucker, Cameron Chase and Blake Jackson.
Hayes was born in Buhl, Ala. and a graduate of the University of Alabama. She worked as a registered nurse at the VA Medical Center and retired from DCH Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed the Audobon Society and the Red Hat Society. She was an avid Bridge player and founded the Cub Scouts of Cottondale Den. Her hobbies included painting and bird watching. She enjoyed spending countless hours with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a tireless volunteer with the Salvation Army and a member of Trinity United Methodist church. ``Nanny'' was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.
Pallbearers will be Chris Hayes, Robbie Walker, Edward M. Weed, Charles Drucker, Preston Chase and Bryon Jackson.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests sending donations to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army.
