Leonard Whittington
Leonard Alney Whittington, 73, of Gloster, died March 29, 2011, at Field Memorial Community Hospital in Centreville.
Visitation is 6 to 9 tonight at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Gloster, then noon Friday until services at the church at 2 p.m. The Rev. Robert Toney and the Rev. Alton Foster will officiate, and burial will be in New Hope Methodist-Protestant Church Cemetery. Brown Funeral Home of Gloster is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Whittington was born Jan. 4, 1938, in Gloster. He was the son of the late George Lewell Whittington and Winnie Brantley Huff.
Mr. Whittington, affectionally known to some as ``High Pockets,'' was a longtime Gloster resident.
He was a retired supervisor at Georgia-Pacific and was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors and gardening.
He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and was an O'Neil Fire Department volunteer.
Survivors include his wife, Susan McLain Whittington; three sons, Dwayne and Jason Whittington, both of Gloster, and Marty Whittington and wife Tina of Centreville; one daughter, Traci Holland and husband Bill of Natchez; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Megan, Chase, Paige, Jared, Mat-thew and Rami; three great-grandchildren, Maddilynne, Nyah and Davin; a brother, Larry Whittington and wife Angie of Gloster; a sister, Barbara Whitehead and husband Doyle of Gloster; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dwayne, Marty, Jason, Matthew and Jared Whittington, Glen and Gary Sterling and David Bradley. Honorary pallbearers are the men of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Eddie Forman, Doyle Whitehead, Terry Short, Steve Carroll Rollins, Arnell Rollins, Joe Boykin, Tommy Vinnet and Jackie Whittington.
