Services for Lester Kenneth Jones, 76, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at Natchez Regional Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Zabron A. Davis III officiating and the Rev. Sam Tomlinson assisting. Burial will be in the Natchez Cemetery.
Mr. Jones was born May 2, 1925, in Natchez, the son of Joseph Montgomery Jones and Bessie Lena Mitchell Jones. He was a lifelong resident of Natchez, educated in Natchez Public Schools and a graduate of LSU where he was a member of the DKE fraternity. He served as navigator in the U.S. Naval Air Force in Pacific Theatre as Lt. J.G. He was president of J.M. Jones Lumber Co., was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where he served as a Vestryman. Mr. Jones was a former member of Trinity
Episcopal Day School Board. He was also past president of Adams County Chamber of Commerce, former director of Hardwood Manufacturers Association, former director of Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association and president of Southwest Hardwood Manufacturing Club. Mr. Jones was a member of Natchez Rotary Club and the American Legion.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Raymond Jones, Newton Jones and Howard Jones; three sisters, Audrey Jones Tobias, Shirley Jones and Mary Dell Jones.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Brandon Jones of Natchez; three children and their spouses, Kim Monette Garrett and Milton of Natchez, L. Kenneth Jones Jr. and Kimberly of Opelouses, La., and Mary Ann Cartwright Jones of Natchez; three grandchildren, Amy Monette Womble of Brandon, Jacob Harding Harrison of Natchez
and Mackenzie Lee Jones of Franklin, Tenn.; and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Eva Deane Jones Simonton; a nephew and business partner, H. Lee Jones Jr.; and a number of other nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers will be Howard Jones, Brad Simonton, Hayden Kaiser, III, Bill Dale Jr., Brandon Adams, Hall Ratcliffe III, Lawrence Adams and Larry Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Class of 1943 and Adrian Trimble.
The family requests memorials be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, Trinity Episcopal Day School or the charity of your choice.
