He was converted under the ministry of Rev. D. M. Howell, and united with the Unity Baptist Church at his boyhood home February 27, 1863, remaining a faithful member until his death. He was married to Mary J. Watson, February 4, 1872, and from their union came three children, one of whom died in infancy.

As a husband he was faithful and affectionate, as a father he was kind, and set before his children an example that led them to know of his Savior, as a citizen he was law-abiding.

His funeral was preached at his home by Rev. F. J. Giblett of Girard, assisted by the writer, from Job 30:23, after which all that was mortal of our brother was laid to rest in the Girard Cemetery to await the resurrection morn.
