Funeral services for Lewis Edward Dempsey, Sr. were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2002 in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel, Winnfield, LA with Rev. Gerald Sanson officiating. Burial was in Old Union Cemetery at Joyce, LA under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield, LA.
Mr. Dempsey, age 80 of Winnfield, LA died Thursday, December 19, 2002 in his Winnfield residence.
He was born in Standard, LA to Thomas William and Ollie Belle Green Dempsey, was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy serving in WW II, was on the USS Tennessee when Japan attacked and was a big fan of Bing Crosby.
Survivors are four sons, Michael Baxter Dempsey of Atlanta, LA, Lewis Edward Dempsey, Jr., Phad Porter Dempsey and Thomas Thayne Dempsey, all of Winnfield; three daughters, Mavis Raye Davis of New Iberia, LA, Dochia Ann Taylor and Shahn Shray Davenport, both of Shreveport; one brother, James "Hoot" Dempsey of Princeton, LA; two sisters, Doris Osborn of Shreveport and Mary Moore of Bossier City; and eight grandchildren, Meredith Spear, Ben Spear and Reagan Taylor, all of Shreveport, LA; Tyler Dempsey of Winnfield, LA; Sonny David, Jr. and Kristi David of New Iberia, LA; Jacob Dempsey and Maddaline Dempsey, both of Winnfield, LA.
Pallbearers were: Jacob Dempsey, Danny David, Sr., Danny David, Jr., Joe Creel, Thad Porter and Ricky LeBaron.
