Smith Services Set Friday
Funeral services for Lloyd D. Smith, 76, of 1105 E. 30th St., Bryan,
will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church with the
Rev. Bailey Stone and Dr. O. Bryon Richardson officiating. Burial will
be in the Steep Hollow Cemetery under the direction of the Callaway-Jones
Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith died at his residence Wednesday night. He was born May 28, 1899
in the Reliance Community and had been a lifetime resident of Brazos
County. He was a prominent realtor and businessman and had been
manager of purchasing for Texas A&M University for 21 years. After leaving
the university, he became the first city manager of College Station.
He resigned that position in 1946 to enter the real estate business.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon
and Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years. He was also a member
of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Willie Smith of Bryan; two sons,
Enoch E. Smith of Bryan and Ralph D. Smith of Houston; one sister,
Mrs. W.D. Lloyd of Hereford and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dr. William P. Fife, H. Ray Smith, Jerry Smith,
Morris Dyess, Mack Cooner and R.J. Hollas.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Businessmen's Bible Class
of the First Baptist Church and other friends.
