Lois W. Castigliola
Lois W. Castigliola, born August 6, 1921 in Okolona, MS passed away on September 23, 2014 at the age of 93.
Along with her husband George and infant son, she was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mattie Meeks Welsh and two brothers.
She is survived by a daughter, Lois K. Castigliola and three very special friends, Tommy and Pam Wixon and Betty Jean Taylor; God daughter, Hanna Wixon Wheeler.
Lois moved to Gautier in 1952 with George and Lois K. Shortly after moving here, they contracted with Quaker Oats as a supplier for the making of Puss'n Boots cat food. They also owned and operated three seafood markets, Bow to stern Marine, Ship Chandelors and The Pier restaurant. After Georges' death, Lois continued to manage them for many years. In 1993 she co-founded the Jackson County Archives with Betty Rodgers and later became the head manager. Lois was active many years in the Jackson County Genealogical Society including co-founding editor of the journal and completion of the Jackson County History book. Shortly before her retirement, she served on the Jackson County Bicentennial Committee. She was recognized many times from the city, county and state for her many accomplishments while at the Archives. She retired from the county July 27, 2012 shortly before her 91st birthday. Lois was also very active in clubs on the coast. One being Zonta, where she was the founding president for this area.
Matt Mitchell will conduct a memorial service to be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Pascagoula Street, Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be one hour prior.
