Madison Farmer Shot To Death

CANTON -- Lonnie Luther Hardy, 78, prominent Madison County landowner, was found shot to death at his home in the western part of the county Friday morning.

Relatives found him on the porch of his home at 9:15 a.m., where, they said, he had been sitting by himself. The bullet from the .38 calibre pistol entered his right temple. He is said to have been in ill health.

Hardy, member of a prominent Madison county family, was the son of the late John Thomas and Rebecca Mccarty Hardy. He had lived all of his life in this county and had extensive land holdings near the old Mississippi Ordnance plant.

He is survived by his wife and several nieces.
