Lora Dell Sander[s] Heard

Lora Dell Sanders Heard known affectionately as “Day,” went to see her Lord on Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998. She was 74 years old.

Services for Lora Dell Sanders “Day” Heard will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at the Lakeview Methodist Church in Minden, La. Officiating will be Rev. Wayne Howingston, assisted by the Rev. Jimmy Stovall, retired Methodist minister, and Rev. Mark Kennedy, pastor of the Vivian Presbyterian Church, Vivian, La. Graveside services will be conducted at the Pine Grove UMC Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Lakeview Methodist church from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, September 20, 1998.

She was a native of Dodson, La., moved to Ruston at the age of five where she spent her formative years. She is a 1946 graduate of Louisiana Tech. One of her favorite pastimes was to attend a Lady Techster's game. She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women, a member of the Lakeview Methodist Choir and a member of the Louisiana Methodist Oursillo Community.

Most of all, she will be remembered as a devoetd [sic devoted] wife, mother, sister and friend. Her hospitality, compassion and love that were freely given endeared her to many people. Her courage displayed in face of daily adversity was a great inspiration to all.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jarrell F. Heard; children, Carol Daye Heard of Minden, La., Alice J. Forrest and husband Ed of Hammond, La., Jarrell S. Heard and wife Susan of Gainesville, Ga., Nolen R. Heard and wife Fay of Hammond, La.; two sisters, Mrs. Rosemary Baldridge and husband Bill of Shreveport and Mrs. Norma Jean Barnett of Shreveport; two brothers, Mr. William E. Sanders and wife Thelma of Minden, La., and Mr. Wilbur H. Sanders of Atlanta, Ga.; two aunts, Mrs. Ray Aycock of Ruston, La., and Mrs. A.A. Branch of Shreveport, La.; beloved brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Hewell and Helen Heard of Hodge; seven grandchildren: Amanda, Aaron and Alex Forrest, Mathew, Jennifer and Jessica Heard, and Jason Heard; many nephews; nieces; and a host of extended family and friends that loved her.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Sanders of Huntsville, Ala.

Pallbearers are Dr. Wiley Baldrige, David Brewer, Aaron Forrest, Jason Heard, Mathew Heard, Evan McClanahan. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Barnett, Bobby Cutrer, Barry Dobbins, Clyde Keating, Paul Lessen, John Lyles, Wally Watts and William E. Sanders, Jr.

The family would like to express appreciation for all the many gestures of kindness and compassion during this time of illness and sorrow.

Special recognition and thanks is due to the professionals of the Haworth Home Health Services, Samaritan Hospice Services, the Schumpert Cancer Treatment Center and Mrs. Inez Czech who provided personal care and ministry to both Day and her family during this time of sorrow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Lakeview Methodist Church or the Lakeview Methodist Choir Fund.
