Mrs. Loreese Machen Carpenter, age 86 of Winnfield, passed away, Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Autumn Leaves Nursing Home in Winnfield.
Mrs. Carpenter is a native of Calvin and worked at Gibsons Department Store for many years. She is the daughter of the late Pierce Franklin Machen and Jeannette Hodge Machen. Mrs. Carpenter was also preceded in death by her husbands: Melvin Cockerham and Kenneth ``Buster'' Carpenter; two grandchildren: Frankie Tolbert and Justin Cockerham; two great grandchildren: Justin Dain Sanders and Cole Sanders; and a sister: Imogene Machen.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her children: son: Eugene Cockerham and his wife Debbie of Augusta, Georgia; daughters: June Sanders and her husband Clyde of Winnfield, Anne Womack and her husband John of Winnfield; and Peggy Lodridge and her husband Michael of Iatt Lake, son: Kenneth Carpenter and his wife Jeanne of Calvin; sixteen grandchildren; thirty nine great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Irene Anderson of Jackson, Mississippi and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Loy Gaar officiating. Burial will follow in the Cypress Creek Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
Pallbearers will be: Pierce Carpenter, Bobby Carpenter, Mike Sanders, John Womack III, Steve Shelton, and Jacque Pullig.
