Heir Takes Long Trip for Bequest of $15
REDDING, Dec. 12. -- When the estate of the late Lorenzo R. Manley of Burney valley was settled up there was left just $109.25 in cash and seven nieces and nephews to share it. Each will receive $15.60, according to the order of distribution made yesterday in the Superior Court.
The heirs are scattered over the country from Nebraska and Oklahoma to Oregon and California. A niece living in Nebraska, hearing of her uncle's death in California and expecting that he left a large fortune, for Manley was a pioneer, made a special trip to Shasta county to be sure to get her proper share.
The administrator sought in vain to induce the seven nieces and nephews to yield their shares of $15.60 each so that a tombstone could be put up on their uncle's grave, but all of them refused. Each insisted on receiving the cash.
