Louise Posey Bevill Odum
Grand Cane, LA -- Louise Posey Bevill Odum, age 88, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2013 at WK Pierremont Hospital in Shreveport, La. after a long illness. Louise was born January 7, l925 in Haynesville, La to the late R. E. Posey, Sr. and Mamie Evans Posey.
Services for Mrs. Odum will be held
at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, LA on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 10 A.M. with visitation on Monday, October 28, 2013 from 5-7 P.M. Burial will follow the funeral services at Highland Cemetery in Mansfield. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews.
Louise grew up in Mansfield, La. and after graduating from Mansfield High School she married William Vernon Bevill, Sr. in 1943. Together they owned several grocery stores in Mansfield while she also worked at the First National Bank in Mansfield for 44 years. She was a teller and later the head bookkepper [sic bookkeeper]. They had one son, William Vernon Bevill, Jr. Both preceded her in death.
In later years Louise reconnected with high school classmate Charles Thomas Odum, Jr., whom she married in 1992, and moved to Grand Cane, La. where they lived until his death on October 3, 2013
Louise was also preceded in death by her sisters Lyntine P. Ricks, Doris Lee P. McCuller, and brothers Robert E. Posey, Jr. and James L. Posey; grandsons John Bryan Bevill and William Kevin Bevill. She is survived by sisters Myra P. Myers of Lake Charles, LA, Betty P. Gentry and husband Vernon of Shreveport, LA., and Helen P. Radford of Mansfield, LA., daughter-in-law Mary Weedon Bevill and grandson Jeremy Clayton Bevill, both of Mountain City, TX. and great-granddaughters Peyton Sage Bevill and Kyra Zoey Bevill, both of Buda, TX and numerous loved nieces, nephews and friends.
Louise was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Mansfield and more recently the Grand Cane Methodist Church. She was a past president of the Pilot Club of Mansfield and served in other offices in the club. She was also a Worthy Matron and Treasurer in the Mansfield Chapter No 103, Order of the Eastern Star. Later she was a member of the Alf Garrett Chapter No. 123, O.E.S., Logansport, LA., and also a member of the DeSoto Historical Society.
The family wishes to thank caregivers Julia, Stephanie and Dora who gave Louise and Charles their kind and faithful dedication for the past few years.
