Auto Crash Is Fatal to Airman, 22

Airman 2. C. Loye G. Tully, 22, of the 2nd Airborne Missile Maintenance Squadron at Barksdale Air Force Base, died at 4 a.m. yesterday in Schumpert Hospital from injuries received about two hours earlier in a traffic accident in the 2100 block of Market Street.

Tully was injured at 2:05 a.m. when his car failed to make a turn in the street and he struck two utility poles near the Greenwood Cemetery. He was southbound on Market Street and traveling at a high rate of speed, police quoted witnesses as saying.

Tully is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Tully of near Beaumont, Tex., and was a native and lifelong resident of Jefferson County, Tex.

Police said Tully's car struck one utility pole on the east side of the street and was almost demolished before it traveled 56 feet further southward and struck the second pole.

Hospital attendants said he suffered severe head and internal injuries in the accident.

His death was the 16th in Shreveport and the 43rd in Caddo Parish this year as compared to 16 and 36 at the same time last year.

The body will be sent this morning by the First National Funeral Home of Shreveport to the Broussard Funeral Home in Beaumont for services and burial at a time to be announced.

Surviving in addition to his parents is his widow, Mrs. Sharon N. Tully of Hamshire, Tex.
