Lucile Smith Peacock

Mrs. Lucile Smith Peacock, 83, of 7148 NC Hwy 50 South died Wednesday at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Rose & Graham Funeral chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Capps. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery with Eastern Star Rites.

Mrs. Peacock was born June 25, 1924 in Johnston County to the late James Lonnie and Hettie Lee Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl D. Peacock; a sister, Alameta Johnson.

Mrs. Peacock taught schools in the Johnson County, Harnett County and Sampson County systems prior to her retirement. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church since 1938 where she served as a Sunday School teacher, WMU director, church librarian, and held many other positions. Mrs. Peacock was a member of the Lou Parrish Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as the Worthy Matron three times. She also served as a Grand Representative of the state of Kentucky in North Carolina. Mrs. Peacock was also a member of the Board of Directors for the Johnston County Unit of the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include: sons, Carl D. Peacock, Jr. and wife, Judy of Chesapeake, VA, Lonnie S. Peacock and wife, Sylvia, of Benson; brother, Garland Smith of Benson; grandchildren and spouses, Crystal P. and Scott Noles, Sonya P. and Michael Byron, James Lonnie and Rhonda D. Peacock, Jennifer P. and Elmer Tolle III, Jeremy D. Peacock, and Charles B. Peacock; seven great-grandchildren; special caretaker, Carrie Blue of Dunn; niece, Betsy Johnson of Dunn.

Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, Benson, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday. Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church Fellowship Fund, c/o Jean Lee, 8515 Meadowbrook Road, Benson, NC 27504 or to the charity of one's choice.
