Lucile Ware Hughes

Former Petaluman Lucile Ware Hughes died on June 22, 2008 at Hallmark North in Redding. She was 104.

Mrs. Hughes was born in Guyman, Okla., and moved at a young age with her family to Oroville, where she attended school and met her future husband, Jack Hughes.

After the couple moved to Southern California, they returned to Oroville after two years and later lived in Artois and Los Molinos. They eventually moved to Petaluma, where they raised their two daughters.

Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker, talented seamstress and avid bridge player. In later years, she began watercolor painting, and sold many of them.

Mrs. Hughes moved to Redding after her husband's death to be near family.

She was a longtime member of the Methodist Church and was active in the church in Redding. She was awarded a lifelong membership by the Petaluma Woman's Club.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her children, Lois Hurley of Redding; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Hughes; and daughter, Margaret Knott.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
