In Memory

On the morning of January 20, 1910 at 8 o'clock, the Death Angel visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Erskins and took away their little son, Luther. Luther was born July 12th, 1903 [sic 1893] and departed this life Jan. 20th, 1910. He was 7 [sic 16] years, 7 months and 8 days old. All that knew him love him. Luther was an invalid for several years, yet his life seemed to be one of joy and pleasure.

Thou art gone, our precious darling,
Never more canst thou return,
A place is vacant,
In our home that never can be filled.

Why need we worry an hour
Over the most precious one
For he was called from earth
To be an angel in Heaven.

We know your trials are hard to bear,
For we have trod that same rough road,
But God, my friends, will take your care
For He alone can take your load.

God moves in a mysterious way,
His wonders to perform;
He plants His footsteps on the sea
And rides upon the waves.

Forgive these wandering cries, O Lord!
Confused with many a tear;
Forgive them where they disobey
And in Thy wisdom make us wise.
