Wreck Inquiry Brings News
Kin of Local Woman Murdered

Mrs. Eunice Harrison of Sprague River learned Thursday that her sister, Mrs. Lydia M. Journey, had been slain at Fresno, Calif., allegedly by her estranged husband, Eugene J. Journey.

Journey, 58, is scheduled Friday to enter a plea to a murder charge.

He is accused of shooting Mrs. Journey three times in the chest at a highway cafe north of Fresno. The shooting occurred on August 2, but Mrs. Harrison did not learn definitely of the tragedy until Thursday.

On Monday she heard a radio news announcement that a Mrs. Journey had been injured in an automobile accident, or at least so she thought the announcer said. She wired Fresno, and a reply came back that her sister had been murdered. Apparently the auto accident victim was another party of the same name.

On Thursday The Herald and News inquired over the Associated Press wires and confirmed the shooting report.

Arrested at Fresno on August 18, Journey told police his wife had obtained an interlocutory decree of divorce last December and had spurned reconciliation.

Mrs. Harrison, accompanied by her husband, left last night for Fresno.
