Allison Yeager

Lyn Allison (Antrobus) Yeager, 97, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away peacefully and into the welcoming arms of her heavenly Father on 10 Sept, 2012.

Allison was born June 10, 1915, in Crawfordsville, Ind., to Barnabas and Augusta Antrobus. She was a talented musician and singer, graduating with honors from DePauw University with a BA in vocal music in 1936. She taught piano, organ, and voice and served as Minister of Music at several churches in New York, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri (East Sedalia Baptist). She received a master's degree in Education from Henderson State Teachers College, in Arkadelphia, Ark., in 1956 and taught high school English in Arkansas and Missouri (Higginsville), and later remedial English to Air Force airmen at Whiteman AFB.

An avid writer, poet and genealogist, she published three books, “Barney,” a biography of her father, a Baptist minister; “Martha Mulberry,” a children's color book; and “Icons of the Prairie,” about farm silos, and hundreds of religious and historical articles for many local newspapers and periodicals.

She married Randolph Orville Yeager, a Baptist preacher and university professor of history and economics, in 1937.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Randy, and granddaughter, Lyn Yeager. She is survived by two sons, Gaylen Yeager, of Independence and Colonel Rod Yeager, Kansas City; grandchildren, Bret Yeager and Meredith Ann (Yeager) Williams; and several great-grandchildren.

The family is grateful to several friends and acquaintances that loved and cared for her and especially to the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center staff and to the many Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care specialists that visited during her final days and hours.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, at Christ United Methodist Church, 14506 E. 39th Street, Independence.
