M.B. Childress

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Funeral services for M.B. Childress will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 at Rose-Neath's Bossier Chapel. Conducting the services will be Bro. Tommy Patton and Bro. Buster Page. Interment will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Bossier City.

M.B. was born November 6, 1933 in Pelican, LA and died March 31, 2015 in Shreveport, LA. He was a graduate of Northwestern State University, where he ran on a track scholarship. During this time he met the love of his life, Kathryn Pepper. He attained a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education, Masters Degree in Administration and Plus 30 in Guidance and Counseling and Supervision of Student Teachers. In 1954, he joined the United States Marine Corp and served from 1954-1957 as a Sergeant.

In 1960 he began his career with the Caddo Parish School Board and worked in Shreveport for the remainder of his career. From 1960-1965 he was a Teacher and Coach at Broadmoor Junior High, 1965-1968 a Guidance Counselor at Linwood Junior High, 1968-1970 Assistant and Principal at Oak Terrace Junior High, 1970-1972 Assistant Principal at Bethune High, 1972-1980 Principal of Linwood Junior High and finished as Personnel Director for the Caddo Parish Schools, serving in this position from 1980-1994.

After retiring, M.B. enjoyed golf, his grandchildren, LSU sports and his games at the Willow Lake Clubhouse.

His son, Wade Childress, mother, father and four brothers precede[d] him in death.

M.B. is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathryn P. Childress; daughters, Dawn Britt and husband, Dale G. Britt, Jr., Shawn Watkins and husband, Kelly Watkins; grandchildren, Andrew Britt and fiancée, Megan Hoog, Katelyn Navarro and husband, Jacob Navarro, Kaylee Watkins, Daniel Watkins and sister, Virginia Spencer.

Honoring M.B. as pallbearers, will be Bobby Allen, Andrew Britt, Carl Muse, Jacob Navarro, Phil Sherman, Steve Spencer and John Slater. Honorary pallbearers will be men of the Willow Lake neighborhood.

The family suggests memorials be made to Cypress Baptist Church or to the charity of donors choice.
