Madge O. Johnson

Madge O. (Ormand) Johnson, age 90 of Jersey, Arkansas, passed away on Saturday, November 4 at Hospice Home Care in Little Rock.

She was born on January 17, 1922 in Lonoke County, Arkansas to Sam and Lecy (McGhee) Ormand. She was the eldest of their five daughters.

She was the wife (55 years married Dec. 6 1940) of James Carl Johnson who preceded her in death on April 1, 1995.

She is survived by their five children: Margaret Starnes (Estel, deceased) of Cabot; Betty Heird (Calvin, deceased) of Warren; Linda White (Hugh) of Vancouver, WA; Carla Crowder (George) of Sherwood and Samuel P (Sam) Johnson (Rita) of Flower Mound, TX. Madge is also survived by 12 Grand Children, 26 Great Grand-Children, 5 Great Great Grand-Children and many niece, nephews and numerous friends.

Madge was a member of the Methodist Church in Jersey then the First United Methodist Church in Warren.

She participated in community activities and was a member of the Soil Conservation Board, Bradley County Pink Tomato Association, Shady Grove Cemetery Association and Jersey Fire Department.

Her enjoyment in life came from her love “of people”. She loved to cook, entertain, work hard and laugh. She and Carl were tomato farmers (partial to the Bradley tomato variety) cattle breeders and vegetable growers. Her most rewarding roles in life were those of Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt Madge and Friend. Her grandchildren still quote her three favorite expressions: “sure we can”, “just do right” and “see you in the morning”!

Funeral services were 1:30pm Thursday November 8th at Frazer's Chapel with Rev. Gary Maskell officiating. Janice Sullivan was organist.

Burial was in Shady Grove Cemetery at Jersey by Frazer's Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Jeff Johnson, Joey Johnson, Rusty Heird, Chuck Heird Kenny Johnson and Randy Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Ederington, James Ederington, Stan Sweeney and The Fisherman's Class of the First United Methodist Church.
