retired educator

CLINTON -- Major C. McDaniel, 97, a retired educator, died of heart failure Saturday at Methodist Medical Center in Jackson.

Services are 3 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with burial in Clinton City Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home and 1-3 p.m. Monday at the church.

Mr. McDaniel, a Jones County native, was a Navy veteran of World War I. He helped organize Pearl River Junior College and served as president of Holmes Junior College for 12 years. He has been recognized for his work in the development of junior college programs.

Survivors include, wife, Anise; daughters, Anise Brock of Moss Point, Sara Davis of Savannah, Tenn., Jane Wade of Ocean Springs, and Annette Robertson of Hattiesburg; sons, Major McDaniel Jr. of Clinton and Jack McDaniel of Jackson; sister, Amy Suddith of Sandersville; and 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
