Margaret Hayes Nichols McQueary
Margaret Hayes Nichols McQueary, 90, a retired telephone operator, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 21, 2007, in Mineral Wells.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church. Burial: Woodland Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Rodney and Gary Roberts, Randy, Will and Rhett Warren and Richard Holder.
Memorials: Palo Pinto General Hospital Auxiliary or the Zonta Club of Mineral Wells Scholarship Fund.
Margaret was born Dec. 11, 1916, in Jarrell to Abner Russell Nichols and Mary Etta Hayes Nichols. Margaret was one of the first switchboard operators in Mineral Wells and retired after 32 years with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. She was a longtime resident of Mineral Wells. Margaret was past president and charter member of the Mineral Wells Zonta Club and past president of the Telephone Pioneers of America. As a member of First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells, she served as a Sunday school teacher and as a general officer for many years. Margaret also served on building, search and other committees at the church. As a 1932 graduate of Mineral Wells High School, she was active in the 50-Year Club. Margaret was also a member of the Palo Pinto County General Hospital Auxiliary.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, William A. McQueary; her parents; and a brother, J.D. Nichols.
Survivors: Daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Terry Brock of Lake Palo Pinto; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Barbara McQueary of Big Spring; grandchildren, Sherri Holder and her husband, Richard, of Gordon, Tom McQueary and his wife, Jana, of Big Spring, Tim McQueary of Kerrville and Toby McQueary of Houston; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
