Marguerite H. Green
Mrs. Marguerite Hardin Green, a high school math teacher for more than 30 years, passed away Monday morning at her residence, at the age of 99. She and her late husband, John F. Green, whom she married in 1939, owned and operated Green's Shoe Store and Bootery Shoe Store in Fort Payne. During World War II, with her husband serving overseas, Mrs. Green continued teaching and operating both stores. After attending Judson College, she graduated in 1934 from Howard College (now Samford University). In recent years, Mrs. Green has been honored for services to her community, and in 2001 by the Fort Payne Rotary Club and in 2004 by Landmarks of DeKalb County.
Marguerite Hardin born Sept. 18, 1912 in Clayton, N.M., the daughter of the late Dr. James F. Hardin and Mamie Hayes Hardin. She was the granddaughter of James B. Hardin, founder of Hardin's Bakery in Tuscaloosa, and Joel T. Hayes a founding member of the Tuscaloosa Board of Education. Her sisters were the late Elizabeth H. Breeden Turner of Gadsden and the late Dorothy H. Lloyd of Fort Payne.
She is survived by nieces, Marian Breeden Anderton (Walter C.), Birmingham and Vickie Davis, Florida; nephews Richard C. (Connie J.) Green, Lenoir City, Tn. Vincent Lloyd, Fort Payne and Festus Lloyd , Tuscaloosa. She is also mourned by her friends, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Machen, Mr. and Mrs. G.B. Beasley and Marie Poe, Fort Payne.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 4:oo pm from the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Pat McFadden officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
