Marie Mick

Marie Myrtie Arnold Mick of Iago went home on Jan. 1, 2009 at the age of 89 years.

She was born on Dec. 19, 1919 in Rotan, La., to James Elias and Callie Belle Arnold.

Ms. Mick was reared in Columbus, La., and graduated from Pisgah High School. She was a housewife for 18 years and went back to college to complete her degree in special education. She taught special needs children at Canton Street School in the Wharton Independent School District for 15 years, at which time, she retired.

She helped in 4-H Club a number of years and participated in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at Iago Federated Church. After retirement, she taught herself to quilt. She made many beautiful quilts for her family. Ms. Mick loved to garden and work in her yard. She cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Agnes, Ida, Hazel and Cleo; and brother, Willard.

She is survived by her brother, James Elias ``Jr.'' Arnold with wife Betty of Orange; and sister, Meta ``Mickie'' Holesovsky of Glen Flora; two daughters, Lynda Humphreville with husband Tom of Vista, Calif., and Theresa Guess with husband Wayne of Iago; her grandchildren include, Toya Matthews and husband Kippy of El Campo, Jerod Guess and Heather Faust of Iago, Callie Humphreville of Vista, Calif., and Seth Humphreville of San Diego, Calif.: there are four great-grandchildren, Kayla, Aubree and Trace Matthews of El Campo and Audrey Grabow of Vista, Calif.

Honorary pallbearers are her special friends/staff of Station Three at Garden Villa Nursing Home and caregivers, Tami Sedillo and Frances Gonzales.

Graveside services and interment were held at 3:30 p.m, Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with The Reverend Ollie Southall officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iago Federated Church, P.O. Box 576, Boling, TX 77420.

Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
