Marie Fuselier Savell
(January 10, 1921 - December 4, 2011)

Marie Fuselier Savell, 90, of Zachary, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice, an inpatient hospice facility in Baton Rouge, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease complicated by a recent stroke. She was born Jan. 10, 1921, in St. Martinville.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, A.G. Savell, in February 2008.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Donna Savell, of Charlotte, N.C., Charles and Sandra Savell, of Overland Park, Kan., and Stephen and Deborah Savell, of Virginia Beach, Va. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Ryan Savell and his wife, Kristin, of Minneapolis, Christopher Savell and his wife, Ericca, of Overland Park, Brady Savell, of Nashville, Tenn., and Shannon Savell, of Virginia Beach; and two great-grandsons, Owen and Luke Savell, of Minneapolis.

She was born the third of 10 children of Ernest and Madeline Fuselier, of St. Martinville. She is survived by several sisters and brothers, Genevieve Thomas, Alice Key, Joseph Charles ``J.C.'' Fuselier, John Fuselier, Larry Fuselier, and Daniel Fuselier, all of Louisiana, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She graduated from St. Martin Convent High School in June 1937, and married A.G. Savell in February 1942. After beginning her battle with Parkinson's disease at home for a few years she moved to Oakwood Village Assisted Living Center in Zachary and resided there for more than 11 years until early November 2011.

A service to celebrate her life will be at Charlet Funeral Home, 4230 High St., Zachary on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. preceding the service. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Port Hudson National Cemetery.
