MARIE MCCLENDON

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 14, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb for Marie Whittington McClendon, 74, of Gillsburg. Rev. Cletus Moak and Rev. Charles Guy offiicated. Burial was in McClendon Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Landon Moore, Dallas McClendon, Stevie Moore, Rusty McClendon, Carl L. Spillman and Judd Honea.

Ms McClendon passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at her residence surrounded by family after a lengthy illness.

Born October 21, 1935, in Eudora, Arkansas, Ms McClendon was the daughter of Charles Christopher and Eula Allred Whittington, both deceased.

Ms McClendon was a member of Gillsburg Baptist Church.

Ms McClendon began her career as a nurse at Beacham Memorial Hospital in Magnolia and later worked as operating room supervisor at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Ms McClendon received her master's degree in nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi and later received her Certified Nurse Practioner license.

Ms McClendon taught nursing at Our Lady of the Lake School of Nursing, was nursing supervisor at Woman's Hospital and retired from Greensburg Hospital, where she was director of nursing. She continuously advanced her career through education to improve health care.

Ms McClendon was serving her third term on the MSRMC Board of Trustees for District 5 of Amite County. She was president of the board during her first term.

In addition to her parents, Ms McClendon was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Eugene McClendon; two brothers, Charles Whittington Jr. and C. Mitchell Whittington; and two sisters, Maude Emily Durham and Elma Lee Harris.

Ms McClendon is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis E. and Trina McClendon of Gillsburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra McClendon Moore and Stevie of Hebron; three grandchildren, Landon and Katie Moore and Dallas McClendon; a brother, Bill Whittington; and three sisters, Marion Gober, Mary Spillman and Inez Sellers.
