Marjorie (Margie) Corley Collins

SHREVEPORT, LA- Services for Marjorie (Margie) Corley Collins, 86, of Shreveport, formerly of Lufkin, will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tueday in the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Nolan Duck officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday evening at the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home. Mrs. Collins was born October 11, 1916, in Fullerton, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Cora (Walker) and I. A. Corley, and she was called home on May 24, 2003, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Collins grew up in Mansfield, Louisiana. She worked for several years at Morgan Lindsey prior to her marriage. She married William F. (Bill) Collins on May 4, 1940 in Mansfield, Louisiana. Bill always said he met his million dollar baby at a five and ten cent store. They moved to Lufkin, Texas in 1946, where Mr. Collins worked for Texas Foundry, and Mrs. Collins was a housewife and mother to two children. She was an active member of Lufkin's First Baptist Church. In October, 1996, Bill and Margie moved from Lufkin to Live Oak Retirement Community in Shreveport. Margie sang with the Live Oak chorale singers.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill; sisters, Mildred Sewell and Lolette Rowland; and brothers, H. M. Corley and Roy Corley. Mrs. Collins leaves two children, Sandra Collins Matteson and her husband, Robert of Bossier City, LA and W. F. (Bill) Collins, Jr. and his wife, Jennie of Chandler, Texas; seven grandchildren, William Wayne Matteson and wife Jana of Houston, TX, Shari Knight and husband, Andy of Tyler,TX, Shannon Richardson and husband, Brain of Shreveport, LA, Tony Matteson of Minden, LA, Scott Collins of Ft. Worth, TX, Brain Collins of Victoia and Brandon Collins of Chandler, TX; ten grandchildren, Kaylie Shelton, Emily, Nathan and Noah Matteson of Houston, TX, Jordan, Angela and Alissa Knight of Tyler, TX, Taylor and Hannah Richardson of Shreveport, LA, and Chandler Matteson of Minden, LA; sister, Clarite Green and husband, Art of Baton Rouge, LA; sister-in-law, Lillian Thatcher and husband, Russell of Alvin and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express a speical THANK YOU to the employees of Live Oak for the compassionate care given to Mrs. Collins during her residency.
