Rev. Marsette R. Temple

A native of Meadville, Miss., a past resident of Zachary and a current resident of Prairieville, he died at 7:15 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2007, at Ollie Steel Burden Manor. He was 91.

Rev. Temple served as a minister in both Mississippi and Louisiana for many years. He was also retired from Copolymer as a machinist after more than 26 years of service.

Visitation will be held at Welsh Funeral Home, 426 W. New River St., Gonzales, on Sunday, July 22, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at New Hope Methodist-Protestant Church in Gloster, Miss., on Monday, July 23, from 1 p.m. until funeral service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Kevin Sartin. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Brown Funeral Home of Gloster will be in charge of Mississippi service.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Grace Tureau Temple; two daughters, Margaret and husband Curtis Usry and Faye and husband Jack McKey; three stepchildren, Marlyn and husband Wayne Templet, Brenda Tureau and Jerry and wife Susan Tureau; two sisters, Dolores Temple Ratcliff and husband Melvin of Summit, Miss., and Lucille Temple Abbot of Sacramento, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, Terry Usry and wife Melanie, Mark Usry and wife Wendy, Jan Smith and husband Tommy, Theresa Mathews and husband Michael, Jeff McKey and wife Dianne, Bobby McKey and wife Sheri, Todd McKey and wife Karen, Tracy and husband Chuck Hutchinson, Sonja Mobley, and Darren Beard and wife Amanda; four stepgrandsons, Keith and Kevin Templet, Jason and Justin Tureau; 29 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years, Inez Day Temple; daughter, Belinda Beard; great-grandson, Brad Smith; parents, Thomas Willie and Una Whittington Temple; six sisters, Ida Mae Mury, Audrey Sisco, Willena Hall, Nettie Price, Gladys Hall and Velma Hancock; and six brothers, Truly, Earnest, Artensie, Will Jr., Floyd and Levon Temple.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are his sons-in-law.

He was very dedicated to missionary work in prisons, hospitals and nursing homes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge.
