Martha Gwin Gates Carver
SHREVEPORT, LA - Services for Martha Gwin Gates Carver, 86, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday April 30, 1998 in Shreveport. She was born in Kingsville, TX August 28, 1911. She moved to Farmington, MO in 1912 and moved to Shreveport in 1928 and became a resident. She graduated from C. E. Byrd High School in 1929. She was an employee of W. F. Beall Company for 20 years. Mrs. Carver was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 56 years and a member of the Ladies Auxilliary of Gideons International.
Martha was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was affectionately called “Granner” by her grandchildren and by all who loved her. We will always remember her sitting at the piano playing hymns. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist where she served as pianist in 1942. Later she served as choir member, Sunday school teacher and accompanist in various Sunday school departments.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of 49 years, E. W. Gates; and son, William Frank Gates.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert Carver, Shreveport, LA; two sons, Wesley Gates, Center, TX and daughter, Kathyrn J. Flowers, Shreveport, LA; one sister, Mildred Holmes, Baton Rouge, LA; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Family suggest memorials may be made to: The Building Fund at Calvary Baptist Church or to Gideons International.
