OPELIKA, AL -- Martha T. Barkley, 63, of 1785 Lee Road, died Friday in Opelika. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue, with burial in Macon Memorial Park. The Rev. Dan Tomberlin and Pat Farmer Arwood will officiate. The family will meet friends from 7-9 p.m., Sunday at the Funeral Home and suggests that memorial contributions be made to Bethany House, 1171 Gatewood Drive, Bldg. 100, Auburn, AL 36830.
Mrs. Barkley, widow of Richard Davis Barkley, Jr., was born in Taylor County the daughter of the late Jack and Leola (Peacock) Taunton. She had lived in Savannah before moving to Opelika recently and was the mother of the late Richard Davis Barkley, III. Mrs. Barkley was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include four daughters, Winnie Morrell of Reynolds, GA, Patricia Carter of Thomasville, Pam Lee of St. Augustine, Fl and Tresa Floyd of Smyrna, TN; a son, Grady Barkley of Opelika, AL; three sisters: Brenda Hobbs of Columbus, GA, Linda Carman of St. Petersburg, FL and Wanda Ussery of Savannah, GA; five brothers, Cecil Taunton and Hallie Taunton, both of Butler, GA, Charles Taunton of Reynolds, GA, Thurmond Taunton of Butler, GA and Gary Taunton of Columbus, GA; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Snow's Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue, has charge of arrangements.
