MARTHA SUE SIMMONS
Martha Sue Simmons, age 91, of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013.
She was born November 23, 1921 at Pine Bluff, a daughter of the late Eli Vanderbilt Rugg and Georgia Smith Rugg. She was a graduate of Pine Bluff High School, and was also predeceased by two brothers.
Although Mrs. Simmons lived the majority of her life in Pine Bluff, she had resided in Dallas while her husband was studying engineering at Southern Methodist University. During her time there, she worked in the SMU Bookstore. After graduation, they moved to Tyler, TX where Mr. Simmons was a mechanical engineer for the Cotton Belt Railway.
Mrs. Simmons was a long-time active member of Lakeside United Methodist Church. While living in Tyler, she was a Cub Scout den mother during her son's early years. She was also an avid horse racing enthusiast.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene R. “Gene” Simmons, whom she married in April of 1942; a son, Van Simmons of Jefferson City, MO; a grandson, Randall Anthony Simmons; and a great-granddaughter, Sabrina Simmons.
Memorial services will be Monday, 2:00 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Pam Estes officiating. Interment will be private.
The family will greet friends Monday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
