Marvin C. Stanley

Marvin C. Stanley, age 94, of Florence, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, after an extended illness.

He was born in West Blocton, Ala., and attended the University of Alabama. Mr. Stanley resided in Florence for more than 60 years. During the past 41/2 years, he has lived at El Reposo Nursing Home. He was a civil service employee. He retired from Redstone Arsenal Missile Command, where he worked for 20 years. He was an avid sportsman who won many awards for his shooting expertise. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and training his many bird dogs.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Florence, the National Rifle Association, a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and the Muscle Shoals Skeet & Trap Club.

Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Greenview Memorial Chapel, with burial to follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Leonard McDowell and the Rev. Gary Formby.

His parents, Ben O. and Annie Pearl McIntosh Stanley and a stepson, Harold Douglas Cooper, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lovelace Stanley of Florence; daughter-in-law, Martha Robbins Cooper of Winter Garden, Fla.; grandsons, Joseph Harold Cooper of Winter Garden, Fla., and Christopher Douglas Cooper of Helena, Ala.; great-grandchild, Molly Kathryn Cooper of Helena, Ala.; and a special niece who served as his guardian, Peggy Killen Jones.

The family would like to thank the staff at El Reposo Nursing Home for their loving care and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of First United Methodist Church of Florence or to the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library.
