Marvin F. Crain
A memorial service to honor the life of Marvin F. Crain will be held Tuesday, May 12 at 2 p.m. at North Jackson Baptist Church. Officiating will be Bro. Earl King and Bro. Charles Smith, both former pastors of the church. Mr. Crain was an ardent Southern Baptist and a longtime member of North Jackson Baptist Church where he had served on many committees and as a Sunday school teacher and where he had surrendered to the lay ministry.
Mr. Crain filled the pulpit on a number of occasions when the pastor was unavailable. He had been a life-long student of the Bible and had a special interest in prophecy. He wrote and got printed two booklets, ``Prophecy is the Proof'' and ``A Bible Primer.''
Mr. Crain was born in Evelyn, La., on Aug. 10, 1921 to Jasper and Susan Haire Crain; he was the youngest of six children. Mr. Crain grew up in a house in Evelyn that was a ``stone's throw'' from the Bayou Pierre River.
Mr. Crain worked his whole career in broadcast radio, working in every aspect of the business and was widely known as the host of the ``Cowboy Roundup'' program on KNET. He worked 23 years at KNET-AM and then went to work for two years at KOCA-AM in Kilgore and then returned to Palestine for the start-up of KLIS-FM radio and was with that station from day one and continued to work there for another 23 years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Crain was preceded in death by brothers Bill, Wilmer and Ralph Crain; two sisters, Gladys Butler and Aline Bars; and his beloved wife, Lonnie, whom he called ``Pee-Wee.'' He is survived locally by his son, Marvin R. Crain; and a special niece, Sue Perry; and had other nieces and nephews in Texas, Louisiana and Florida.
It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to North Jackson Baptist Church or to a Christian charity/ministry of your choice. Burial was at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
