Rites Set For Early Fire Chief

Marvin J. Flowers, 64, of Route 4, Brownwood, fire chief of the Early Volunteer Fire Dept., died Sunday at 10:45 p.m. in a Brownwood hospital after an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home chapel with burial in Jenkins Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Flowers was born Jan. 10, 1898, in Scurry County and had lived here most of his life. He was a member of the Brownwood Volunteer Fire Dept. over 25 years and a Brownwood alderman four years.

Mr. Flowers retired seven years ago to stock and dairy farming. He married Miss Estelle Kirksey Dec. 2, 1917, in Brownwood and was a member of the Jones Chapel Baptist Church.

He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Oddfellow Lodge and Modern Woodmen of America.

Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Nadene Turney of Brownwood, Mrs. Joy Nell Underwood of Fort Worth and Mrs. Jeanette Gober of Fort Worth; three brothers, John Flowers, Jim Flowers and Tom Flowers, all of Brownwood; seven sisters, Mrs. O. V. Lemons, Mrs. Viola Haynie, Mrs. Mattie Coppic, Mrs. Lola Parker and Mrs. Charlotte Stone, all of Brownwood, Mrs. Ellen Moon of Odessa and Mrs. Rhoda Johnson of Athens, and three grandchildren.
