Mary Alice (Pitman) Lofton

Mary Alice (Pitman) Lofton, 74, of Lufkin, daughter of the late Nellie Mae (Bailey) and James Henry Pitman, was born December 17, 1936 in Cushing, Texas, and passed away August 18, 2011 at her residence. Mrs. Lofton loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She graduated from Cushing High School in 1955. She liked sewing, reading and gardening. She married Calvin Lofton, Sr. on September 7, 1956. Mrs. Lofton was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and the Jolly Seniors Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Lofton is survived by her daughters, Alice Lofton of Lufkin; Leona Jaramillo and husband, Enrique of Bryan; son, Calvin Lofton, Jr. of Lufkin; grandchildren, Calvin Rowland of Lufkin and Lisa Rowland of Bryan; brothers, Marlin Pitman and wife, Beatrice of Rusk, Joe Pitman and wife, Julie of Nacogdoches and Bill Pitman and wife, Lana of Cushing; sisters, Bettie Birdwell and husband, Johnny, May Mitchell, Judy Penney and husband, Johnny and Jenny Nichols and husband, Jackie, all of Cushing; special friends, Sue Dudley, Flossie Lunsford, Margie Wilson and Nell Whisenant; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lofton was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Lofton, Sr.; brothers, James Pitman and Arlie Pitman; and sister, Doris Bailey.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Penney, Jackie Nichols, Kevin Doss, John Doss, Rick Holland, Ronnie McMullen, Marlin Pitman, Jr. and Dustin Nichols.

Services for Mrs. Lofton will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Walter Futch officiating. Interment will follow in McKindree Cemetery.
