Mary Gilliam

Tupelo -- Mary Alyce Gilliam, 94, died Sunday, May 24, 2009 at the Courtyard Community Living Center in Fulton after a brief illness. A Yocona native, she was born January 1, 1915 to the late Henry Hewlett and Fro Knight Johnson. She had been a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church for Sixty years. She was a member of Lively Hearts, Merrymakers, Thursday Culture Club, and Eastern Star. She was a very active volunteer at the Global Outreach and a volunteer at the North Mississippi Medical Center for over 40 years. She was a homemaker who enjoyed fishing, golf, crossword puzzles, and was an avid Braves fan. Most of all, she was a very loving, strong supporter of her grandchildren.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. David Langerfield officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan McDonald of Tupelo, Jan Kirchoffer of Jacksonville, Florida; one daughter-in-law, Cathy Gilliam of Tupelo; 11 grandchildren, Chris Hollaway (Cammie), Alice Ross, Neal Gilliam, Brent Gilliam (Courtney), and Kim Gilliam all of Tupelo, Steve Greenoe (Liz) of England, Amanda McDonald of Amory, Lucas Lawrimore of Dallas, Texas, Wyn Kirchoffer (Christina), Ben Kirchoffer, and Luther Kirchoffer all of Jacksonville, Florida; and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Neal Gilliam, one son Dan Gilliam, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Pallbearers will be Neal Gilliam, Brent Gilliam, Jacob Whittington, George Ross, Riley Ross, and Guy Hollaway. Honorary pallbearers are Wyn Kirchoffer, Ben Kirchoffer, Luther Kirchoffer, Lucas Lawrimore, and Steve Greenoe.

Visitation will be 5 -- 8 p.m. Monday, May 25, 2009

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to Global Outreach Ltd., 136 South Thomas Street, Tupelo, MS 38801.
