Mary Ann Strickland Stapp
Funeral services for Mary Ann Strickland Stapp, age 88, a resident of Winnsboro, LA, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday February 16, 2013 at First United Methodist Church of Winnsboro, with Rev. Johnny Hankins officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Born on April 5, 1924 in Mansfield, LA, Mary Ann was the daughter of I. C. Strickland and Lois Zeagler Strickland. Mary Ann received her degree in education from the Louisiana State Normal College in Natchitoches and began teaching at Winnsboro High School. Mary Ann married the late Roy N. Stapp Sr. and continued teaching in Franklin Parish. She taught the majority of her years at Gilbert High School and finished her career at Franklin Academy in Winnsboro. While teaching other children all her life Mary Ann was also an excellent mother and raised five children. Mary Ann was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church in Winnsboro where she served as Sunday school superintendent for many years and went on many mission trips. She was also a faithful member of the church choir and attended the Choir Sunday School Class. She was a volunteer with the Ladies Auxiliary at Franklin Medical Center for many years working in the gift shop. Mary Ann had many interests and talents which included sewing, growing anything, playing golf, and traveling (she drove with friends to Alaska at least twice)
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, sisters; Merle Strickland (infant), Retta Poole, and brother Dr. T. Scott Strickland.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters: Roy Stapp, Jr. and wife Debby of West, Monroe, LA; John Stapp and wife Harriet of Winnsboro, LA; Paul Stapp and wife Ginger of West Monroe, LA; Merle Davis and husband Jerry of Bastrop, LA; Ethel Williams and husband Billy Gene of Crowville, LA.
She is also survived by sister, Myrth Bankston of Monroe, LA; sister-in-law Uella Strickland of West Monroe, LA; brother-in-law Rev. James Poole of Natchitoches, LA and grandchildren: Henry Stapp, David Stapp (Danielle), Claire Stapp, Gabriel Stapp, Bryan Davis (Stacey), Andrea Davis Sadler (Scotty), Robert Strickland, Amy Strickland Peters (Ashley), 8 great grand-children and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Winnsboro, LA.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Davis, Robert Strickland, David Stapp, Henry Stapp, Scotty Sadler, and Ashley Peters.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, Winnsboro First United Methodist Church, or the charity of your choice.
